aBout Teddies For Loving Care (TLC), Surrey

The aim of Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) is to provide Accident and Emergency departments throughout the country with cuddly teddy bears, for the staff to freely distribute to children in distress when they arrive at hospital.

The initiative was started by Freemasons in Essex during 2001 and has now been adopted by Masonic Provinces throughout the United Kingdom.

Since then it has fast become a global enterprise which has been adopted in the USA, Australia, South Africa, Cyprus, Malta, Spain and Gibraltar.

Due to the regional nature of Freemasonry, each Province has taken on the responsibility for administering Teddies for Loving Care at a local level.

TLC was adopted in Surrey in February 2003. East Surrey Hospital in Redhill was the first Surrey hospital to pilot the scheme. When it launched they had 12 bears which lasted just 2 weeks. Now, 11 hospitals later, each unit receives 48 bears per week!

TLC Appeal Surrey has distributed in excess of 100,000 teddy bears to A&E units in the area. There are six different coloured teddy bears of a unique design, only available through the charity.

Each teddy carries a tag ‘Donated by Local Freemasons’, which provides continuous evidence of the principles of Freemasonry in practice in the community.

Each bear is CE marked and has been approved by all of the health authorities.

TLC is funded by the generosity of local Surrey Freemasons, the sale of merchandise, the sponsorship of local business and individual donations.
